HOW OUR KITS WORK

Our frame kits are simple, very simple. If you can operate very basic tools, you can put together one of boat or swim raft kits. Our easy-to assembly design uses two custom made extrusions that make for a strong, yet light weight frame that goes together in just a few hours. Integral to the design, our MAIN BEAM extrusion is made to fit into the top mounting channels on our 17" and 26" wide floats, and holds everything together. This custom 6000 series aluminum frame member (patent pending) has two slots that accept a standard 3/8" square nut, allowing our custom made HAT CHANNEL frame cross members to bolt in place anywhere you need them. Our frame kits include all the aluminum frame structure components that are easy to bolt together, but you do have to drill the holes for mounting the floats themselves due to slight variations of the molded plastic parts.

Why run a bolt-together kit? This means that you can make the boat any way you want! Also, you can build it in your back yard or workshop and we can ship it to you for a reasonable cost. If you've ever tried to ship a fully assembled boat, you know that it costs a fortune and can easily be damaged in transit due to the large size. Our kits arrive as two shipments. The floats will arrive on one truck as they ship direct from the plastics factory we partner with in AR, and the frame kit will ship from us in NH and arrive on another truck. The shipment from us will include all your frame members and stainless hardware. Also, YES, our hardware kits will have spare nuts, bolts, and washers. We all know how annoying it is when you buy a kit and lose a couple pieces. We don't want anyone to be dead in the water part way through assembly.

Are these whole boats ready to register? No, they are not! When you purchase a kit from us, you are purchasing floats and frame components, not a whole boat with a Hull Identification Number. If using your new boat on public waterways, you will have to register the boat as home-built, and we can guide you through this process.

We currently offer aluminum decking packages for the boat kits intended for passengers, and small capacity transoms (up to 25 HP) are listed on our accessories page. Contact us for guidance on which transom is appropriate for your application.

We have thorough assembly instructions for our boat kits, as well as full CAD models available for each kit that we offer and we're happy to share any info you don't find on this page (just ask!). For further information on shipping, and other frequently asked questions, please read through the info below and check out the FAQ section at the bottom of this page.

Our 8'x8' bolt-together swim raft kit uses 26" wide floats and provides a hefty 1032 pound assembled capacity. This leaves room to bolt on your decking, trim, ladder, and even a slide if you want. The platform on this kit measures 95"x95" (allows us to ship the frame kit with FedEx - less expensive than truck freight) and has plenty of room for multiple people. It also has a super sturdy anchor tie-off bracket that bolts across 3 hat channel cross members with a full dozen 3/8" bolts, and a stainless steel 3/8" D-ring type shackle that is easy to attach your anchor to. We offer this kit as a full bolt-together system with absolutely everything needed to build what is shown to the right. We also offer the pontoon set and frame kit separately. The floats are available in black, blue, and orange.

This kit typically has a 1-3 week lead time and shipping IS NOT included in our price. Please ask for a freight quote before placing your order.

ALUMINUM MAIN BEAM FOR OUR 17" & 26" WIDE PLASTIC FLOATS
-$210 PER 175" LENGTH

This 6000 series aluminum extrusion is custom designed to work specifically with our 17" wide and 26" plastic pontoons and fits into the channel on the top of the floats themselves. It has two slots in the top that accept standard 3/8" square nuts and makes it so you can easily place cross members anywhere you need them. This makes it super simple to design a craft that you can bolt parts anywhere you need them. Some details are listed below.

SPECIFICATIONS:
2.96 pounds per linear foot
Mill finish 6005A/T6511 aluminum
Available in 175" lenghts

This extrusion comes in 175" lengths, but we are happy to cut it ($5 per cut - see drop-down menu below). We stock this length because our longest boat frames are 165" long (7'x15' boat kit) and it also allows us to cut it into two main beams for our 6'x8' boats. Not going longer also makes for tighter straightness tolerances (see note below). To the right we have a dimensioned cross-section diagram for this material, and we have provided 3-D CAD drawings of this part below.

This material is engineered for boats up to 15' in length, but not longer than that. As this is an extruded part, it is subject to the specifications in the Aluminum Association Standard and Data book. We work closely with the aluminum extrusion plant to ensure quality product, and we get the highest quality extrusion possible, but there is always the possibility of slight deviation from perfectly straight (very minor deviation). Per that book, this extrusion could have a deviation from straight of up to 0.0125" per linear foot when measured at the center on a flat surface. Also, the weight of the material IS permitted to effect the straightness measurement when sitting on a perfectly flat surface. Once again, we get the highest quality material possible, but we have to make it perfectly clear that as the aluminum extrusion process is more of an art than a science, there is always the slight possibility of the material having a super minor deviation from perfectly straight. Please take this into account if designing structures to go on top of our frame systems.

Due to the size of these parts, we are unable to provide a shipping calculator. SHIPPING IS NOT INCLUDED in our pricing, so please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.

2" TALL ALUMINUM HAT CHANNEL PONTOON BOAT FRAME CROSS MEMBERS
-$84.99 EACH

This is the same aluminum hat channel that we use for the frame cross members on our boats. These channels have wide flanges that are easy to bolt through and are easily cut to length to fit your needs. When we designed this extrusion, we wanted a material that would be both light-weight and strong. As it's tough to find frame cross members if you're rebuilding or repairing an exsiting aluminum tube pontoon boat, we also wanted a design that would work with other boats on the market. Most manufacturers will not sell their frame cross members individually, so we wanted to fill that need. Some details are listed below.

SPECIFICATIONS:
1.56 pounds per linear foot
Mill finish 6005A/T6511 aluminum
Available in 95.75" lenghts

Our hat channel comes in a 95 3/4" length. Why this length? Most other brand pontoon boats are 8' wide, but once a shipment gets even a hair over 8' in length, which it would if we were to ship 96" long pieces after adding our packaging (just shrink wrap is enough to bump it over 96" long), the cost of shipping QUADRUPLES. That 96" mark for length is killer when it comes to the cost of shipping. With our channel being 1/4" under 96", we can package it to make sure it arrives safely, and stay just under 96". Also, robbing 1/8" from either side of your 8' boat will not cause any trouble whatsoever. To the right we have a dimensioned cross-section diagram for this material, and for those using our parts to design their own boats, we have provided 3-D CAD drawings of this part below.

We are currently out of stock of 8' hat channel. We are expecting the next batch to arrive the fourth week of June.

Due to technical limitations, we are not able to provide a shipping calculator for this item (our automated calculator wants to charge far too much for shipping more than 2 pieces). SHIPPING IS NOT INCLUDED in our pricing, so please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.

8"x1" ALUMINUM BOAT DECKING
-$94.99 PER 165" LENGTH

If you want a light weight solution for decking your boat, this IS the answer. We designed this 6000 series extrusion specifically for our pontoon boat kits. Our goal was to make a light weight extrusion that is plenty strong and easy to fasten. At only 1.44 pounds per linear foot, this locally extruded material has a wide outer bottom flange that is designed to rivet through from under your boat. That means that you don't have exposed fasteners when installed. It comes with a smooth top surface that's ready for your carpet, vinyl, or truck bed liner type coating.

We do offer a cutting service for this material, but we will not sell less than full lengths. Our cut fee for this product is $10 per cut as it takes a little bit of set up and time to debur each piece.

SPECIFICATIONS:
8" wide x 1" tall
1.44 pounds per linear foot
Mill finish 6005A/T6511 aluminum
Available in 165" lengths

For those using our parts to design their own boats, we have provided 3-D CAD drawings of this part below.

When installing this material, we recommend that it be installed with 3/16" diameter stainless steel rivets and 1/4" stainless bolts where you can not get a rivet gun to reach (outer edges). We recommend that every piece of decking be fastened with 2 rivets (or bolts) for the front and rear cross members, then each aluminum plank be fastened to every other cross member, stagging between one plank to the next. This allows your boat's frame to retain its maximum strength. Please contact us if you would like further details on our fastening recommendations. Below we have links to the fasteners that we recommend from McMaster that you'll need to install your aluminum decking.

Due to the size of these parts, we are unable to provide a shipping calculator. SHIPPING IS NOT INCLUDED in our pricing, so please contact us for a shipping quote before placing your order.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How quickly do the kits ship? How does shipping work?

A: To cover out tails, we have to say that turn-around time is typically 2-3 weeks, but we typically get boat kits out the door within a week. We stock thousands of pounds of the frame components, and floats are often in stock, but turn-around time is dependant on the time of the year and outstanding orders. Our busiest time is typically May through July, but any time of the year, filling orders is our top priority, and we get kits shipped as quickly as possible.

Floats ship from our partnering factory in Arkansas and will arrive on one truck (domestic orders) and frames ship from our fabrication and machine shop in New Hampshire and will arrive on another truck. If you're based in New England, local pickup of the frame system at our location in Concord, NH is available, as is local delivery with our own company truck. If you're near north east Arkansas, local pick up of the floats is also available. We also have international shipping available if you're located outside the US. We can ship anywhere in the world, but if you're able to pick up your kit at a local sea port (customers not in the US, Canada, or Mexico), it will be much less expensive than direct delivery when shipping internationally. When shipping via sea freight, we ship FOB (freight on board). This means that the cost that you pay through is the cost to get the freight onto the boat and physically to the local dock. Your local port WILL have additional fees on top of our freight charge, and you WILL be responsible for your local importaion taxes and fees on top of those costs. We simply don't have a way to calculate or collect these fees ahead of delivery, so we strongly recommend contacting your local sea port's freight dock for an estimate of the fees before finalizing your order. Our floats are too large to ship outside of North America any other way. We do have truck freight available for customers in Canada and Mexico. Also, many countries require working with an importation broker to file customs documents. We do not include this service and you will be responsible for making arrangements with a local brokerage before we can ship your order.

Q: Are custom sizes available?

A: Yes! We have a broad range of boat kits listed on this page and we can offer kits that are up to 15' long and 8' wide with this frame system. We are not able to go wider with this frame system and we are not able to go longer than 15' with this frame system. If you need a set-up that is within those overall dimension and not shown on this page, just ask and we'll be happy to help. If you need a boat that is larger than that, we recommend checking out our work barge and house boat frame systems that we offer on the bigasspontoonboats.com page.

Q: Are frame kits available separately for alternate purposes?

A: Yes! If you're looking to use our frame system for a dock, deck, or another purpose, contact us if the size you need doesn't line up with one of the frame systems that we offer above.

Q: How do I mount an engine or a motor on one of the boat kits?

A: We currently offer 20 HP, 6 HP, and trolling motor mounts on our accessories page. We are planning to offer larger capacity transoms in the spring of 2020 as well for our larger tiny boats. Please contact us for recommendations concerning what size engine is appropriate for particular boat kits on this page. We'll be happy to help.

Q: What is the warranty on these kits?

A: Our floats have a 1-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects. This period starts the day that the floats leave the factory. This is a 365 day period and the warranty covers the cost of freight for customers in the contiguous US (Alaska and Hawaii are not included), but not the cost of installation. Our frame systems have a 2-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects. This warranty starts the day that the frame kit is shipped and is a 730 day period. The frame kit warranty covers the cost of freight for customers in the contiguous US (Alaska and Hawaii are not included), but not the cost of installation or assembly. For non-US customers, for both floats and frame kits, replacement parts themselves are covered under warranty, but the cost of freight is not included. If you receive a product and find a defect, please contact us as soon as possible and we will replace the part or parts after clear pictures of the defect or defects are received. Crash damage, misuse, and abuse are not covered under warranty.

Q: How is payment accepted?

A: For boats smaller than our 15' tri-toon work barge kit, we are able to accept payment via credit card, PayPal, check, or bank transfer. We're pretty flexible when it comes to the types of payment that we are able to accept. For the 15' tri-toon boat and larger (work barges and house boat kits), payment has to be in the form of a bank transfer or bank check. Payment in full is required for us to accept an order. We do not ship COD or offer "terms" (payment after product is delivered) for our products. Our company is steadfast on the policy of having zero debts with our vendors and no open accounts with our customers. This allows us to stay focused on the important tasks of filling orders and developing product.

Q: How do returns and cancellations work?

A: Simply put, they do not work. We DO NOT accept returns and we WILL NOT cancel an order. We work hard to get orders out the door as soon as possible and provide the best service that we can, so that means that when you commit to a purchase, we have committed to fill the order as quickly as possible. Once an order is placed, the money you hand to us goes into materials and labor specifically for your order, and we don't get that back, even if you change your mind. We repeat, WE DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS AND WE WILL NOT CANCEL ORDERS.
